Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and general dentistry, ensuring all instruments and materials are prepared and sterilized according to infection prevention protocols.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray), including dental X-ray imaging and 3D scans, while maintaining strict adherence to safety standards and clinical confidentiality policies.
- Manage patient records using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Epic, and patient management software to ensure accurate medical documentation and coding.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments, setting up necessary equipment like dental sterilization procedures and dental equipment, and ensuring aseptic techniques are followed consistently.
- Provide exceptional patient care by explaining procedures, taking vital signs, managing patient anxiety, and ensuring comfort throughout visits.
- Maintain clinical cleanliness by processing dental instruments efficiently using infection control standards and infection prevention management practices.
- Support administrative duties such as scheduling appointments with the dental receptionist, managing patient flow, and handling medical records with confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Skills
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting with four-handed dentistry practices.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Experience operating dental X-ray machines and understanding of medical imaging protocols.
- Familiarity with EMR systems like Dentrix, Eaglesoft, Epic or similar platforms for documentation and billing purposes.
- Knowledge of pediatric dentistry procedures and experience working with pediatric patients preferred.
- Expertise in infection control practices including aseptic technique, dental sterilization procedures, and healthcare infection prevention and control standards.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining clinical confidentiality policies and adhering to safety protocols.
