Reporting to the General Manager, the Route Manager is accountable for customer retention and revenue growth on their routes, for coaching and developing the service team, and for ensuring every route runs safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with DOT and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of Route drivers, setting clear expectations for service quality, sales, safety, and professionalism.
- Recruit, onboard, and train new Drivers; build a pipeline of cross-trained, promotable team members to ensure route coverage and succession.
- Manage performance issues fairly and promptly, including documentation, coaching plans, and corrective action in partnership with HR.

- Proven people-leadership and coaching skills, with the ability to motivate a team and hold others accountable.
- Strong customer-service orientation and the judgment to resolve issues and retain accounts under pressure.
- Excellent communication, organization, and time-management skills; able to prioritize across a fast-paced service day.

Customer Retention & Account Management
- Proactively resolve service concerns, billing questions, and quality complaints with urgency, using service recovery to save at-risk accounts.
- Conduct customer visits and business reviews to reinforce value, confirm satisfaction, and identify unmet needs.
Operations & Route Efficiency
- Plan, balance, and optimize routes for efficiency — stops per hour, mileage, load accuracy, and on-time delivery — while controlling overtime and labor cost.
- Ensure accurate deliveries.
- Provide route coverage. when needed.
Safety, DOT & Compliance
- Champion a culture of safety; ensure adherence to all DOT regulations, and driver qualification requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company policies. , DOT physical/certification requirements, and applicable healthcare and food-service handling standards.
- Maintain a clean, professional appearance standard for the team.
Qualifications & Experience
- Required: High school diploma required. or GED. Associates or Bachelor's Degree preferred.
- Experience: 3+ years in route service, distribution, or a related field, with at least 1–2 years of supervisory/management experience.
Licensing & Certifications
- Valid driver's license with a good driving record; must be a minimum of 25 years of age.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOT medical certification and meet all DOT driver qualification requirements.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
- Able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50–75 lbs repeatedly, load/unload delivery vehicles.
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing in and out of a truck, and driving for extended periods.
- Early morning start times; work performed in a mix of office, warehouse/production, vehicle, and customer environments in all weather conditions.
