Job Brief

Under the supervision of a Residential/Day program supervisor, the Peer Specialist will work a maximum of 30 bi-weekly hours participating in specific and limited activities that supports the Agency’s Individuals in OPWDD group homes and day programs.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support group homes and day programs with errand assistance as designated by the Residential/Day Program Supervisor.
Accompany persons supported to appointments and activities as assigned.
Engage with persons supported to aid in socialization and relationship building
Performs limited tasks within scope as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

A recipient of supported employment services.
Demonstrated work experience in competitive employment/voluntary work.
Verbal and some written communication skills.
Complete a six-week training on residential/day services.
Ability and comfort level with contacting emergency services, i.e. 911
Participate in on-going agency trainings.
The ability to exert one's self physically over long periods of time such as standing for two (2) plus hours at a time.
The ability to push/pull, turn and maneuver equipment including occupied wheelchairs.
Possess the strength, coordination, and agility to safety and quickly respond to emergency situations. Includes the ability to bend, stretch, rotate or reach out with the body, arms, and/or legs to ensure the safety of the people being supported.
