Transportation Driver
New Castle - Henry County
This position is a safety-sensitive position requiring the safe operation of a motor vehicle in the provision of public transit services and the effective transportation of all passengers. Performance of these duties must be conducted in compliance with all applicable DOT, Federal, State, local and system regulations and policies, including U.S.DOT drug and alcohol testing regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBLITIES
Statements included in this description are intended to reflect in general the duties and responsibilities of this classification and are not to be interpreted as being all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned. Duties and responsibilities include the following.
Transporting
· Operate a motor vehicle in the provision of public transit services in compliance with all applicable DOT, Federal system regulations and policies and ensure the safe and timely transportation of all passengers
· Assist passengers in the boarding and disembarking of the vehicle in order to ensure the safety of all passengers, including assistance during vehicle evacuation, as necessary
· Board and disembark passengers, including those using common wheelchairs or other mobility devices, requiring the use of lift equipment and securement systems according to transportation policies and procedures in order to ensure the safety of all passengers
· Complete daily paperwork using the MDC or other method as required, ensuring accurate reporting and records
· Be alert to conditions and/or circumstances that could affect passenger safety and health
· Report changes in service needs to scheduler/dispatcher
· Communicate problems and unusual occurrences to the Transportation Supervisor
Vehicle Maintenance
· Complete daily pre-trip and post-trip inspection using the required inspection checklist to ensure the proper and safe functioning of the vehicle
· Regularly inventory vehicle equipment and supplies; report restocking needs in accordance with transportation’s established procedure in order to maintain a safe, functional vehicle
· Fuel the vehicle; ensures that all vehicle systems are properly shut down; visually inspects the interior for any items left by passengers; locks the vehicle to maintain security
· Clean interior and exterior of vehicle to maintain a sanitary environment for passengers and the safe operation of the vehicle at least once a week or often as needed
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or three or more months experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid operator license with for-hire endorsement or CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) required. Must possess and maintain a good driving record meeting LifeStream’s established driver eligibility standards consistent with the risk management plan.
REASONING ABILITY
Must have the ability to determine vehicle travel path to ensure safe and timely transportation of passengers. Must have the ability to evaluate and determine proper action in situations that may pose a safety risk. Must have the ability to effectively communicate including strong oral and written communication, have knowledge of English language; and the ability to effectively communicate required action to passengers in situations that pose a safety risk. Must have the ability to comply with current traffic and driver safety regulations as well as all other applicable Federal, State, and local regulations and system policies. Must possess strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to analyze and solve problems. Must have the ability to learn, understand, and follow all public transits routes/schedules. Must have the ability to accurately record required payroll timekeeping data using the web-based payroll system.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Must have the ability to bend, crouch, kneel, twit, push and pull. Must have normal hearing, with the aid of corrective devices, as needed. Must have normal vision, with the aid of corrective devices, as needed. Must be free from fainting spells, blackouts, dizziness, or seizures. Must have the ability to sit in normal seated positions for extended periods of time. Must have the ability to ensure extended periods of driving. Must have the ability to lift up to 70 lbs. Must have the ability to tolerate exposure to dust, gas, and/or other fumes. Must have the ability to exert up to 20-50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 lbs. of force frequently. Must be at least 21 years of age. Must meet physical standards determine by LifeStream’ s medical determination office (MDO) assuring compliance with the INDOT requirement for rural public transit drivers prior to service delivery and periodically as required thereafter.
Note: These physical requirements are not meant to replace those specified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Part 391.41 “Physical qualifications for drivers.” All FMCSA physical requirements must also be met.

The driver’s hours of work and work schedule vary. The positions requires being seated for extended periods of time while operation a motor vehicle, interrupted by frequent standing in order to assist passengers. While driving and/or assisting passengers, the driver will need to bend, crouch, kneel, twist, push and pull. The position may also require exposure to varied weather conditions, temperatures, and light levels. The position requires frequent interaction the public. The position may require maneuvering the vehicle in congested traffic and within areas of restricted space.
