Travel RN – Hospice

- Homecare Homebase experience preferred
Shift: 8hr Day Shift - 40
Shift Information: 0800 - 1700 (Monday - Friday)
On Call, Call Back Requirements: No
Weekend Rotation: Not at this time, may sign up to fill in if desired
Holiday Requirements: Will cover 4 hours of holiday assigned. Could be assigned up to 2.
Floating Requirements: Just to patient homes in territory. Is possible to help other RNs if case load is low census
JOB DESCRIPTION
About Facility:
- Provide hospice homecare to patients in Union, Mecklenburg and Anson Co. Will mostly be assigned a specific area once here
- Our current census for department is 120-130
Unit Information:
- Average caseloads are 12-15 with typically 5 visits/day
- Minimum Years of Experience required? 3 years minimum Hospice experience, can be home or inpatient hospice experience
- Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
- All adults, mostly geriatrics
- End of life – CHF, COPD, respiratory failure, kidney failure, liver failure, neuro (Alzheimer’s, dementia), oncology patients
Required License, National Certification, Certs:
- BLS, Driver’s License, personal vehicle, car insurance. Will be reimbursed for mileage.
Skills required:
- Critical thinking with strong assessment skills, being autonomous, general wound care, Pleurx drains, managing opioid/narcotic medication administration education. Will manage all aspects of the hospice experience. Several standing orders so not necessary to call physician for every order.
- HomeCare/HomeBase experience preferred
Support within the Department:
- Home Care aids work independently of RNs
- Triage RN. Helps with unexpected needs and patient call ins
- Charge nurse** **via phone
- Admin on call daily
Technology/Equipment:
- EMR: HCHB (preferred), Symplr,
- Unit specific equipment: Pleurx drains, occasional CADD pumps, trunk stock, laptop, phone (Galaxy 10)
Floating: If yes, where?
- Just to patient homes in territory. Is possible to help other RNs if case load is low census
Orientation (facility and unit):
- NEO
- 1 week of unit orientation
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: Open shifts available to fill if interested. None required.
- If this is posted for a weekend only position, will be 12h shifts and work as “on call” hospice RN for urgent home calls. Guaranteed 12h shifts.
On call? No
Holiday Expectations: Will cover 4 hours of holiday assigned. Could be assigned up to 2 holidays per contract, depending on time of year.
