The City of Hartselle is seeking a dedicated and hardworking Park Maintenance Technician I to join our Parks & Recreation Department. This entry-level position plays a vital role in ensuring our parks, facilities, and public grounds are clean, safe, and well-maintained for our residents and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Work afternoon and evening hours during events.
Maintain and clean sports complexes, pavilions, dugouts, press boxes, bathrooms, and trash bins
Assist with game field preparation including mowing, laying sod, and fence maintenance
Perform basic landscaping, trimming, painting, edging, and light carpentry at Civic Center and Aquatic Center
Maintain city parks and playgrounds through mowing, weed eating, litter removal, and tree care
Support cemetery maintenance including mowing, weed removal, and grave leveling
Assist with setup and teardown for special events at parks and Civic Center
Perform minor mechanical repairs and maintenance on equipment and tools
Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Valid Alabama Driver’s License and insurability
Ability to work nights, weekends, and overtime when required
Experience with lawn maintenance (mowing, weed eating)
Ability to obtain CPR certification within 6 months of hire
Preferred Skills and Abilities

Basic knowledge of grounds and facility maintenance
Familiarity with landscaping tools and light equipment
Ability to follow instructions and work independently
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Work is primarily outdoors and includes exposure to weather, noise, dirt, grease, and potentially hazardous materials
Frequent lifting of light to heavy objects
Use of protective gear including gloves, masks, and goggles may be required
Activities involve walking, bending, climbing, and operating equipment
Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment medical exam and drug screening
Must pass a background check, including criminal history, motor vehicle report, and credit check
Must be authorized to work in the United States
