Breakthrough Silicon Valley (BTSV) prepares talented students who have historically lacked access to higher education for successful matriculation to college, while simultaneously cultivating the next generation of leaders, advocates, and educators. The organization's comprehensive seven-year college access and success program provides continuous support from the seventh grade through the first year of college. This sustained model has demonstrated exceptional efficacy: 99% of BTSV graduates enroll in college immediately upon completion of high school. The program is provided entirely tuition-free, thereby eliminating financial barriers for participating families. Students receive year-round, out-of-school-time academic instruction designed to reinforce and extend their learning beyond the standard school day. In addition to academic support, BTSV furnishes individualized counseling and advocacy services, ensuring that each student is guided through the complexities of college preparation, application, and enrollment. The program serves high-achieving students from underserved communities who will be the first members of their families to attend college—an achievement with lasting significance for their families and communities alike. A distinguishing feature of BTSV is its students-teaching-students instructional model. Accomplished high school and college students serve as instructors, thereby acquiring substantive professional development experience. Under the direction of seasoned educators, these emerging teachers design and deliver their own courses, develop leadership and pedagogical competencies, and gain direct insight into the K-12 education system. Through this reciprocal structure, BTSV establishes a sustainable cycle of opportunity: younger students receive the preparation necessary to attain higher education, while older students are equipped to expand educational access as future educators and advocates.

Member Duties : We are looking for full-time AmeriCorps members to provide academic and college readiness/planning support to 7th to 12th-grade students in the Breakthrough Silicon Valley program. AmeriCorps members will serve full-time from September 8th, 2026, to August 6th, 2027. The AmeriCorps members will serve alongside and be supported by the BTSV program team while preparing students for their college journey. This is a fantastic opportunity for passionate recent college graduates to make a difference in the educational trajectory of aspiring first-generation college students.
