Crown of Texas Trucking is seeking a dependable, skilled Short-Haul Truck Driver to operate a manual transmission, tandem-axle semi-truck paired with belly dump trailers. You will manage local aggregate and highway material hauls across our regional operating area, completing multiple daily runs while maintaining equipment and meeting strict safety standards.
A Short-Haul Truck Driver operates commercial motor vehicles within a short radius—typically within 150 air-miles of their operating center—allowing them to complete multiple local deliveries daily and return home at the end of each shift.
Schedule: Up to 6 days per week (based on load availability), local daily routes—home every night.
Compensation & Work Structure
- Seasonal Pay Structure: 1099 contract labor
- Standard Hauling: 25% of gross load revenue.
- Highway Millings & Specific Hourly Projects: $30.00 per hour.
- Schedule: Up to 6 days per week during peak operations; work availability is load-driven. Home daily.
Key Responsibilities
- Operation & Transport: Safely operate a manual transmission (e.g., 8/10/13-speed), tandem-axle tractor pulling belly dump trailers on regional highways, job sites, and uneven off-road terrain.
- Belly Dump Operations: Control gate mechanisms precisely to drop and spread materials (asphalt, millings, gravel, dirt) according to job site specs.
- Equipment Care & Inspections: Complete daily pre- and post-trip FMCSA inspections. Monitor fluid levels, tire pressures, and air brake systems, reporting maintenance needs promptly.
- Paperwork & Communication: Accurately track load tickets, log hours, obtain customer signatures, and maintain regular contact with dispatch and site supervisors.
- Compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local DOT regulations, axle weight limits, and site safety protocols.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Licensing: Valid Class A CDL with Air Brakes endorsement. Active DOT Medical Card.
- Experience: Demonstrated proficiency driving manual transmission tractors and pulling belly dump trailers.
- Safety Record: Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) and ability to pass pre-employment and random drug/alcohol screenings.
- Physical Demands: Ability to work 6 days a week, secure/tarp loads, navigate active construction sites, and perform routine daily truck maintenance in varying weather.
