A mission-driven nonprofit organization is seeking a Maintenance Specialist to support the operations of a supportive housing property in Los Angeles. This role is responsible for ensuring residential facilities remain safe, functional, and well-maintained for residents, staff, and visitors.
The lower end of the salary range applies to candidates meeting minimum qualifications, while the higher end applies to candidates with significant maintenance experience.
Position Overview
The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the overall maintenance, repair, and safe operation of residential facilities. This position performs a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance tasks including plumbing, electrical, painting, carpentry, HVAC maintenance, and light construction.
This role also supports preventative maintenance, safety compliance, and emergency response to ensure the property operates effectively and safely.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of building maintenance and repair tasks, including plumbing, carpentry, electrical (120V), painting, and general facility repairs.
- Install, repair, and maintain plumbing fixtures including sinks, toilets, drains, water heaters, pumps, filters, and related systems.
- Operate hand and power tools used in construction and building maintenance.
- Install and repair locks, hinges, and door hardware, including key replacements.
- Repair or replace flooring, tiles, baseboards, carpeting, and other building materials.
- Perform light masonry work including mixing and applying mortar.
- Interpret blueprints, manuals, and technical drawings to complete maintenance projects.
- Plan and estimate materials and scope of work for small construction or repair projects.
- Ensure preventative maintenance tasks are completed on schedule.
- Inspect facilities for safety compliance and address hazards immediately.
- Monitor the maintenance ticketing system and respond to service requests promptly.
- Participate in emergency response situations, including fires, gas leaks, or facility incidents.
- Assist with evacuations and safety procedures when required.
- Maintain records of preventative maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
- Procure maintenance supplies in a cost-effective manner and confirm accuracy of orders.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Five (5) years of general maintenance experience in building or equipment maintenance, carpentry, or facility repairs
- Two (2) years of plumbing and/or electrical maintenance experience
- Basic computer skills and ability to use:
- Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
- Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Microsoft Teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Spanish language proficiency
- Plumbing certification
Mandatory Requirements
Candidates must be able to:
- Provide employment eligibility verification
- Obtain CPR and First Aid certification (if not already certified)
- Successfully complete:

Driving Requirements
Driving is an essential function of this role. Candidates must:
- Have reliable transportation
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Provide proof of insurance and vehicle ownership if using a personal vehicle for work duties
