American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Labor & Delivery position at a Level III Perinatal Center and teaching hospital in Milwaukee, WI, requiring at least 2 years of experience and Level III Perinatal Care experience.

Labor & Delivery unit within a 228-bed teaching hospital designated as a Level IV Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Level III Perinatal Center, and Accreta Center of Excellence in Milwaukee, WI
-
High-risk maternal and newborn patient population, averaging 280 deliveries per month
-
Patient types include placenta accreta, tubal ligation, cerclage, hysterectomies, pre-eclampsia, massive transfusions, surgical recovery, and COVID cases
-
Patient ratios: 1:1–2 for active labor, 1:3 for antepartum, following AWHONN staffing guidelines
-
12-hour night shifts, 7p–7:30a (1900–0730), 36 hours per week

Must be available to work any day of the week; block or patterned scheduling is not guaranteed

Every other weekend rotation based on need
-
No on-call requirement; call-back availability required in low census situations

Charting via Epic; additional equipment includes Alaris pumps, Pyxis, fetal monitoring systems, and epidural pumps

Floating required to Postpartum and Women's Care Center (inpatient non-pregnant women); travelers float first
-
Active WI RN license or compact RN license currently in hand

Current certifications required: BLS, NRP, and FHM

Minimum 2 years of L&D RN experience required
-
Level III Perinatal Care experience is required with no exceptions — must include experience providing care for high-risk mothers and newborns

Proficiency in fetal monitoring, maternal assessments and interventions, OB triage, cervical exams, postpartum care, and L&D recovery
-
Experience assisting with C-section circulation (as secondary nurse), primary nursing for vaginal deliveries, and procedural support
-
At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year

COVID vaccine required

Orientation begins with nurse manager onboarding on day one, followed by preceptor training on day two, and an assigned work buddy with independent patient assignment by day three

Supportive unit team includes a charge nurse, clinical resource nurse, phlebotomy support, RT, house supervisor, certified nurse midwives, OBGYN providers, and OB anesthesia available onsite 24/7

Teaching hospital environment with OBGYN residents, family practice physicians, and midwives on staff

Holiday coverage required every other holiday based on contract start date
