We are seeking an experienced SMT Machine Operator to join our electronics manufacturing team. The SMT Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, monitoring, and maintaining surface mount technology (SMT) equipment to produce high-quality printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs). The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, mechanically inclined, quality-focused, and comfortable working in a fast-paced electronics manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and operate SMT production equipment, including screen printers, pick-and-place machines, and reflow ovens.
- Load and verify components, feeders, solder paste, and materials according to production requirements.
- Follow machine programs, work instructions, bills of material, and assembly documentation.
- Monitor equipment performance and production processes to ensure consistent quality.
- Perform first-piece and in-process inspections and identify defects or process issues.
- Make routine machine adjustments and troubleshoot basic equipment problems.
- Verify component part numbers, quantities, polarity, orientation, and placement.
- Maintain accurate production and quality records.
- Perform routine equipment cleaning and preventative maintenance.
- Follow ESD, safety, quality, and manufacturing procedures at all times.
- Communicate machine, material, quality, and production issues to the appropriate supervisor or engineering personnel.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Meet established production schedules and quality standards.
- Work closely with production, quality, engineering, and materials teams to resolve issues.
Qualifications
- Previous experience operating SMT equipment in an electronics manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience with SMT pick-and-place equipment is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and understand assembly drawings, work instructions, BOMs, and component identification.
- Basic understanding of electronic components and PCB assemblies.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Good mechanical and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to use basic measuring and inspection equipment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks as required.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with SMT feeders, stencil printers, reflow ovens, and automated inspection equipment.
- Familiarity with ESD-controlled manufacturing environments.
- IPC-A-610 knowledge or certification is a plus.
- Experience troubleshooting SMT process or equipment issues.
