Job Overview:
Family Overnight Shelter Staff will oversee the daily functions of the shelter, including cleanliness, safety, and supply management. Shelter Staff will help operate overnight shelter for up to 10 families, ensuring all guests maintain compliance with shelter rules, the shelter is safe, people are able to sleep, and the building/community is respected.
Essential Duties:
- Check guests in using Mission Tracker software, collect and maintain accurate required information.
- Refer guests who are ready for more support and services to case manager.
- Prepare each room for the families before they arrive.
- Oversee functions of the shelter, including cleanliness, safety, and supply management.
- Prep food and coffee; clean the bathrooms (including toilets), vacuum/mop, and other cleaning responsibilities.
- Speak to shelter guests and coworkers in a kind and respectful manner.
- Explain the guidelines, supervise the area throughout the night, walk through the area regularly to ensure everyone is safe.
- Monitor and enforce all shelter rules and policies according to shelter procedures.
- Ability to work and support other shelter staff, managers, and external agencies and service providers.
- Conduct regular walk-throughs, outside perimeter checks and ensure a safe and effective environment.
- Collaborate with other staff, volunteers, and community partners as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and/or trainings and contribute to a cohesive team.
- Explain to guest rules and contract agreement requirements.
- Ability to focus on factual details, using clear, objective language, when submitting incident reports in a timely manner.
- Is willing to hold and promote self-accountability among participants.
- This position is subject and requires compliance with ongoing regular drug tests throughout the course of employment.
- Ensure safety of children, being aware of interaction between them and parents.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Responsibilities:
- Follow and adhere to Agape policies and procedures
- Attend all required trainings.
- Attend weekly staff meetings as applicable
- Report any suspected child abuse.
Job Specifications (Knowledge, skills, abilities and experience normally required for competent performance)
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in social services, shelter-related role, or relevant experience or teachable and willing to learn new skills.
- Must be able to work independently within the scope of assigned task with minimum supervision.
- If in recovery - A minimum of 12 months of sobriety.
- Experience working with children/families.
Skills and Abilities:
- Empathy and Compassion: A deep commitment to helping others and able to set and maintain healthy boundaries with participants and staff.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for guest interactions and staff collaboration, good reasoning abilities.
- Organizational & Time Management: Strong skills to manage multiple tasks, prioritize work, and handle documentation.
- Crisis Intervention: Basic knowledge and ability to effectively manage stressful situations and provide support during critical incidents.
- Trauma-Informed Care: Enough knowledge in understanding and implementation of a trauma-informed and empowerment-based service model.
- Confidentiality: Ability to maintain the privacy and discretion of sensitive client and organization information.
- Highly Relational and Child Friendly: Able to build relationships with families and interact with children in safe, respectful, and relational manner.

- Ability to stay awake for a standard 12-hour overnight shift.
Licensure and Certification:
- CPR/BLS preferred (not required)
