American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Pediatric ICU position at a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and teaching hospital, requiring at least 2 years of high-acuity PICU experience and a NC or compact RN license.

Work in a 24-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with an average census of 21–23 patients

Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and academic teaching hospital

Patient population includes respiratory, trauma (penetrating and non-accidental), DKA, seizures, neurosurgical, acute/chronic renal failure, orthopedic, surgical, transplants (kidney and liver), complex medical, and blood disorders
-
Nurse-to-patient ratios vary by acuity: 2:1, 1:1, or 1:2

EMR: Epic (experience required)

Equipment includes Artic Sun, Camino device, EVDs, Belmont Rapid Infuser, Alaris and Medfusion syringe pumps, Omnicell med dispensing, Philips monitors, EV-1000 Vigileo, I-stat, and Accuryn

12-hour night shifts (1845–0715), 36 hours per week

Every other weekend rotation required

Floating required as needed to Pediatric CVICU, NICU, Neonatal PCU, and General Peds units

Active NC or compact RN license required
-
Current BLS and PALS certifications required

Minimum 2 years of high-acuity Pediatric ICU experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
-
Epic EMR experience required
-
Proficiency with critical care vasoactive drip titration, invasive line management (ART lines/CVP), ventilator and trach management, CRRT, chest tubes, epidurals, PCAs, sedation/analgesic drip management, and HOFV management
-
Experience with specialized equipment including Artic Sun, Camino device, EVDs, and Belmont Rapid Infuser preferred

Ability to float to Pediatric CVICU as needed

Must reside more than 50 miles from the facility — local candidates are not accepted

At least 1 professional reference from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN dated within the past year required for consideration

Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration

Responsibilities include management of complex pediatric critical care patients, bedside procedures with providers, and discharge planning
-
Unit support includes a charge nurse, unit secretary, CNA/health care tech, resource nurse, RT, intensivist, residents, APP, phlebotomy, and IV/VAT team — all available 24/7
-
Centralized and bedside monitoring in use; no telemetry monitoring tech
-
Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation

No on-call responsibilities; if the PICU cannot utilize the traveler, floating to another unit may occur in lieu of call
-
RTO requires manager approval; scheduling cycles run every 6 weeks

Alternating major holidays required
