POSITION DESCRIPTION
Lift Ambassadors provide academic and mentoring support to students in kindergarten through second grade who are experiencing challenges in reading and math. Through individualized and small-group support, Lift Ambassadors help strengthen foundational literacy and math skills, build student confidence, and improve academic performance during the critical early years of education.
Lift Ambassadors work collaboratively with Orange Center STEAM Academy staff and Lift Orlando's Resource Teacher to support student achievement and contribute to a positive, inclusive school environment.
This is an Independent Contractor/Vendor position (1099) and is not a W-2 employee position with Lift Orlando. Individuals serving in this role will be engaged as independent contractors/vendors and will receive a Form 1099, as applicable.
RESPONSIBILITIES | ACCOUNTABILITIES
Academic Support & Mentorship
- Provide individualized and small-group reading and math support to students in grades K–2.
- Utilize appropriate strategies, activities, and resources to strengthen foundational literacy and math skills.
- Reinforce skills and concepts identified by classroom teachers and Lift Orlando's Resource Teacher.
- Encourage and motivate students to build confidence, independence, and a positive attitude toward learning.
- Help identify barriers or challenges that may impact student participation and academic progress.
- Build positive and supportive relationships with students while serving as a consistent mentor and role model.
Collaboration & School Support
- Work closely with teachers at Orange Center STEAM Academy and Lift Orlando's Resource teacher to identify and support students in need of additional reading and math assistance.
- Communicate regularly with teachers and Lift Orlando Resource Teacher regarding student progress, strengths, and areas requiring additional support.
- Participate in training sessions, workshops, and professional learning opportunities focused on effective reading, math, mentoring, and student-support strategies.
- Collaborate on projects and initiatives that promote a positive and inclusive school environment.
- Support school-wide events, programs, and initiatives that promote literacy, mathematics, student engagement, and academic achievement.
- Assist with additional school-day activities and student support as needed.
Monitoring & Reporting
- Track and document student attendance, participation, and academic progress during support sessions.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of student progress and achievements for program monitoring and reporting.
- Participate in regular check-ins with Lift Orlando's Resource Teacher to discuss student progress, concerns, and areas requiring additional focus.
- Provide timely feedback regarding student performance and assessment results.
- Assist with monitoring student growth in reading and math to help determine the effectiveness of academic supports and interventions.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Previous experience in teaching, tutoring, mentoring, youth development, or working with elementary-aged children is preferred.
- Understanding of foundational reading and math skills and strategies is preferred.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, encourage, and inspire young children.
- Patience, empathy, dependability, and a genuine passion for helping children succeed.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, school staff, Lift Orlando staff, and other Lift Ambassadors.
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of students.
- Ability to maintain student confidentiality and follow school and organizational policies and procedures.
- Must be able to pass required Lift Orlando and Orange County Public Schools background check.
