The Journeyman Plumber plays a critical role in the installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing and hydronic systems on large‑scale commercial and industrial projects. This position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to interpret mechanical drawings, and a commitment to safety, quality, and productivity. The journeyman works independently or as part of a crew, coordinating closely with foremen, project managers, and other trades.
Key Responsibilities
- Commercial Plumbing Installation — Install, modify, and repair plumbing systems including domestic water, sanitary waste/vent, storm, natural gas, and hydronic piping.
- Blueprint Interpretation — Read and interpret mechanical drawings, isometrics, and specifications to ensure accurate layout and installation.
- Pipefitting & Assembly — Cut, thread, groove, solder, braze, weld, and assemble piping systems using approved methods and tools.
- Equipment Installation — Set and connect commercial fixtures, pumps, boilers, water heaters, backflow devices, and specialty mechanical equipment.
- System Testing — Perform pressure tests, leak checks, and system commissioning in compliance with code and project requirements.
- Safety Compliance — Follow company safety policies, OSHA standards, and job‑specific safety plans.
- Coordination With Trades — Work collaboratively with HVAC, electrical, and general construction teams to maintain workflow and resolve field conflicts.
- Documentation & Reporting — Complete daily reports, material requests, redlines, and other required documentation.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Journeyman License in the state of employment (or ability to transfer/reciprocate).
- Minimum 4–6 years of commercial or industrial plumbing experience.
- Strong understanding of IPC/UPC, local codes, and mechanical standards.
- Ability to operate pipe machines, fusion equipment, lifts, and standard plumbing tools.
- Proficiency with hydronic systems, gas piping, and commercial fixture installation.
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work at heights, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Strong communication, problem‑solving, and time‑management skills.
