Our dynamic and talented staff work together to help Brevard County families permanently break the cycle of homelessness. In our long-term transformational program, women with children receive housing, access to health care, education, financial coaching, job training, Bible study and life skills classes in a safe, Christ-centered residential setting. The program is designed to lovingly transform families from dependency to self-sufficiency through daily accountability, personal responsibility and goal advancement.
Our Children’s Program includes Kids Academy and Kids Club, where we serve all children in the New Life Mission program with the goal of providing a loving, caring and safe learning environment that encourages and promotes development in the areas of physical, social, emotional, spiritual and intellectual growth.
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The After School Program Assistant will provide care for children in the New Life Mission After School Program. This is a part-time position and could vary from 10 hours to 25 plus hours a week depending on the needs of the Afterschool Program. Additional hours may be available for special events.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provide care for children aged from 5-16 years old.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment in accordance with program goals and philosophy, safety, and wellness.
- Engages in creative methods to engage with children such as arts and crafts, supervised play, and storytelling.
- Engages and interacts with children.
- Monitors free time on playground.
- Maintain open communication with the Children’s Program Director, staff, and mothers.
- Encourages and supervises volunteers.
- Keep accident reports, maintain confidentiality, report any suspected child abuse in accordance with Florida abuse reporting requirements.
PHYSCIAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Be able to lift children up to 50 pounds.
- Be able to walk, bend, stand, squat, or sit on the floor (with children)
- Be able to physically respond quickly in an emergency.
- Be actively engaged and involved with children each day.
- Plan daily outdoor time in all ranges of temperatures or humidity levels, subject to safety guidelines.
- Be able to travel to various locations for field trips or outings using the company vehicle.
REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- A heart for children
- A willingness to learn with a cooperative spirit.
- Ability to be flexible in scheduling to meet the needs of the overall program.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Honesty, integrity, and commitment to confidentiality
- Imagination and sense of humor
- Awareness of social/emotional learning
- Experience working with children in a classroom is preferred.
- Valid Driver’s License
- All potential candidates must be a minimum of 18 years of age and complete a background check prior to employment.
WAGES/HOURS/LOCATION
- Wage is dependent on work experience, skillset and education
- Background Check required and valid Florida driver’s license
- Christian Beliefs must be in alignment with New Life Mission’s Statement of Faith (on website)
