Duties
- Safely operate tractor-trailers, including refrigerated, flatbed, and tanker trucks, adhering to FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations
- Plan routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery schedules across over-the-road (OTR) driving routes
- Load and unload freight manually or with equipment, ensuring proper handling of hazardous materials and dangerous goods in compliance with hazardous materials regulations
- Transport automobiles and other cargo securely using specialized equipment for vehicle transportation or freight delivery
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify truck condition, including checking manual transmissions, load securement, and safety features
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo manifests, and delivery documentation following FMCSA regulations
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers and clients to coordinate deliveries and resolve any issues promptly
Experience
- Proven experience in commercial truck driving with a valid CDL A license
- Demonstrated ability to operate manual transmission trucks safely and efficiently
- Experience with route driving, freight handling, and delivery driving across diverse environments
- Familiarity with logistics cargo handling for various types of freight such as hazardous materials, dangerous goods, refrigerated goods, flatbed loads, or tanker shipments
- Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) regulations, DOT (Department of Transportation) rules, and hazardous materials regulations
- Prior experience in truck loading/unloading procedures and manual handling techniques
- Strong understanding of GPS navigation systems for route planning and real-time adjustments
