An Electrical Panel Builder, is responsible for building and wiring electrical control panels according to blueprints, schematics, and specifications. This involves laying out, wiring, and testing various electrical components within the panel, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards. A key aspect of the job is running and connecting wires efficiently and neatly, often involving cable crimping, looming, and termination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Building and Wiring Control Panels: Assembling electrical wiring and components (relays, circuit breakers, PLCs, terminal blocks, and other electrical devices) into a functional panel based on schematics and blueprints.
- Wiring panels according to diagrams, ensuring proper connections, and maintaining a clean, organized wiring layout.
- Checking for electrical faults, testing the panel's functionality, and diagnosing any issues.
- Inspecting and reworking panels as needed, ensuring they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Proficiently using hand tools (screwdrivers, wire strippers, crimpers) and testing equipment (voltmeters, ohmmeters).
- Following Safety Standards: Adhering to electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry best practices.
- Maintaining accurate documentation of panel assembly processes and wiring diagrams.
- Communicating with supervisors, coworkers, and potentially with clients about panel builds, issues, and quality control.
Skills and Qualities:
- Understanding of electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Ensuring accurate wiring, labeling, and termination.
- Identifying and resolving electrical faults and issues.
- Proficiency in using hand tools and equipment.
- Work Ethic: Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
Experience and Education:
- 5 years of experience in electrical work or panel building is required.
- Strong understanding of electrical wiring practices and safety standards (e.g., NEC, UL508A).
- Ability to use hand tools, wire strippers, crimpers, and multimeters.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
