Title: Positive Behavior Specialist
Department: Special Education Department
Reports to (Title): Special Education Director
Major Functions:
Behavior support and assessments, consultation, and student behavior programming.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct Behavior Consultations
Conduct Environmental Analysis
Conduct FBAs and make recommendations to Therapeutic Interventionists and schools for
development of the BIP/BMP
Write Behavior Improvement Plans (BIP’s)
Write Behavior Modification Plans (BMP’s)
Write Crisis Intervention Plans
Provide Crisis Prevention Training
Assist with student transition from alternative placement
Attend Individualized Education Plan Meetings
Consult with administrative staff regarding behavior programming, discipline and data in their
school
Assist in implementing progress monitoring program of each assigned school
Provide consultative services to parents and administration regarding student needs
Conduct Individualized training programs and provide materials for teachers and staff
Provide direct services to students as mandated by the IEP (Social Skills training)
Conduct observations and data collections to provide strategies and interventions to teachers and
staff
Adhere to the Mississippi Code of Ethics
Maintain confidentiality and privacy of all Desoto County Schools’ records
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Special Education with a minimum of 3 years teaching experience and training in the
area of behavior. Master’s degree preferred. Must be approved by MDE.
