Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented, and flexible Ophthalmic Diagnostic Imager to join our team. This is a full-time floating position based in Highland Park — the ideal candidate should be willing to travel between our office locations (Highland Park, Arlington Heights, Hoffman Estates, Chicago) as needed, so reliable transportation and adaptability are a must.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in ophthalmic diagnostic imaging, patient care, and medical office procedures. This role involves operating specialized ophthalmic equipment with precision and ensuring the highest standards of clinical confidentiality and patient safety. The successful candidate will play a vital part in supporting accurate diagnoses and optimal treatment planning for our patients.
Responsibilities
- Perform a full range of ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic testing, including:
- OCT (optical coherence tomography)
- Anterior segment OCT
- Fundus photography
- A-scan/optical biometry for cataract surgery measurements (e.g., Argos, IOL Master, Lenstar)
- Corneal topography
- iTrace
- Pentacam
- Specular microscopy (endothelial cell counts)
- Visual field testing
- External and slit lamp photography
- Tonometry
- Travel/float between practice locations based on scheduling needs
- Clean and room patients to maintain a smooth clinical workflow, gathering and documenting patient intake information, including vital signs and medical history, for physician review
- Assist with patient preparation by explaining procedures clearly and providing excellent patient service
- Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot imaging equipment
- Accurately transfer images and document diagnostic results in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Support ophthalmologists during examinations and assist with minor procedures as needed, preparing necessary equipment and ensuring clinical protocols are followed
- Maintain strict adherence to aseptic techniques, HIPAA regulations, and clinical confidentiality policies to ensure patient safety and privacy
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Prior experience in an ophthalmology, optometry, or related medical office setting highly preferred; training available for the right candidate
- Knowledge of ophthalmic anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology relevant to eye care preferred
- Proficiency in (or aptitude to learn) ophthalmic diagnostic imaging equipment, including OCT devices, biometers, tonometers, and slit-lamp microscopes
- Reliable transportation and willingness to travel between office locations required
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality
- Experience managing electronic health records (EHR) systems efficiently
- Knowledge of aseptic technique principles to prevent infection during procedures
- Strong attention to detail and comfort working with technical equipment, with the ability to work accurately under pressure
- Excellent patient communication skills and a compassionate bedside manner, with the ability to connect effectively with diverse patient populations
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment
