The Superintendent plans, organizes, directs, and controls large or complex construction projects. This position provides leadership and direction to project employees and subcontractors and ensures all aspects of the project are completed safely, efficiently, profitably, on schedule, and according to established quality standards.
Oversee the implementation of Walker’s safety program and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and site-specific safety requirements.
Ensure all Walker personnel, subcontractors, vendors, and visitors comply with applicable safety policies and procedures.
Participate in safety and incident investigations, ensure timely responses, and document corrective actions.
Complete and review all required safety documentation promptly and accurately.
Coordinate and participate in site-specific OSHA inspections, investigations, claims, government inspections, and licensing matters.
Ensure first-aid kits are properly stocked and their contents are current.
Confirm that an appropriate medical facility is available for employee drug testing and treatment of minor medical emergencies.
Ensure crews and subcontractors maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas.
Ensure the work area is properly secured at the end of each shift.
Provide leadership and direction to General Foremen and Foremen and ensure assigned responsibilities are completed safely and efficiently.
Communicate regularly with company personnel and subcontractors to ensure they understand the work, planned approach, schedule, and potential problem areas.
Establish contingency plans for anticipated project issues.
Resolve construction issues involving productivity, work coordination, scheduling conflicts, and material shortages.
Develop and maintain productive relationships with inspectors, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.
Accompany inspectors during project inspections and reviews.
Establish expectations and practices that support high levels of productivity, accountability, and morale among employees, subcontractors, suppliers, and service providers.
Attend preconstruction, construction, and technical meetings to discuss project progress, schedules, and problem areas.
Determine production sequences and coordinate assigned work with other crafts, contractors, and subcontractors.
Maintain and update the three-week project forecast.
Ensure materials are ordered and scheduled for delivery according to the project schedule.
Ensure tools and equipment are requisitioned and available when needed.
Schedule project personnel and confirm subcontractor staffing and work schedules.
Review RFI logs regularly and identify issues that may affect the project’s cost, schedule, quality, or scope.
Ensure approved change orders are properly executed, documented, and reflected on as-built drawings.
Coordinate with engineering, estimating, and planning personnel to ensure work complies with project drawings, specifications, and schedules.
Coordinate with logistics, purchasing, quality control, safety, engineering, and other departments to ensure project operations are properly supported.
Maintain regular communication with the Project Manager regarding unforeseen problems, project risks, and required corrective actions.
Ensure Walker’s work meets established quality standards, project specifications, and contractual requirements.
Implement work processes that improve productivity, efficiency, and installation quality.
Monitor subcontractor productivity and ensure contractual obligations are met.
Review inspection reports and document the resolution of identified deficiencies.
Review employee timecards and ensure labor is coded accurately.
Code invoices and document additional work and back charges.
Maintain accurate and current as-built drawings.
Complete required startup, equipment, and tool-transfer documentation.
Complete the Superintendent’s daily report each day.
Ensure a Task Hazard Analysis is completed and documented at the beginning of each shift and before work begins on any task.
Maintain the project progress schedule.
Assist the Project Manager with calculating percentage of completion for monthly invoicing and labor reporting.
Complete additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.
Completion of a recognized electrical craft apprenticeship program or an equivalent combination of skills, experience, and training.
At least five years of construction supervisory experience.
Active Texas Journeyman Electrician license.
Ability to understand the project’s scope and objectives, as well as the scopes of other construction trades.
Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations and company safety policies and procedures.
OSHA 30-hour certification required. If not currently certified, certification must be obtained within six months of the date of hire.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
Ability to evaluate the skills and performance of crews and Foremen and provide effective coaching and mentoring.

Employment is contingent upon meeting all jobsite-specific access requirements and having no outstanding restrictions that prevent access to a jobsite or work with Walker’s general contractors, owners, customers, or other business partners.

Work in active client construction-site environments with exposure to employees, subcontractors, multiple trades, equipment, noise, dust, weather conditions, and other conditions typically associated with construction sites.
Access all areas of a construction site in a wide range of climates and environmental conditions.
Read and interpret blueprints and visualize two- and three-dimensional objects and spatial relationships.
Lift, carry, move, or handle materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
Climb step stools, ladders ranging from 8 to 10 feet, extension ladders, and three or more flights of stairs.
Bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and move on hands and knees between 20 and 50 times per day.
Reach, stretch, grasp, lift, hold, or operate objects with the hands up to 50 times per day.
Use visual abilities that include focus, color perception, and depth perception.
