Entry-Level Lathe Machinist FloaterPosition Summary
We are seeking an Entry-Level Lathe Machinist Floater to learn and assist with the setup and operation of manual and CNC lathes while supporting multiple machining departments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Learn to safely operate manual and CNC lathes under the guidance of experienced machinists.
- Assist with machine setups, tooling changes, and material handling.
- Read and interpret basic blueprints, work instructions, and part specifications.
- Measure and inspect parts using calipers, micrometers, and other precision measuring tools.
- Perform deburring, cleaning, and finishing operations.
- Support machinists by preparing materials, organizing tooling, and maintaining workstations.
- Float between machining departments to assist with mills, saws, drilling, secondary operations, and other production tasks as needed.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area while following 5S and safety standards.
- Follow quality, safety, and production procedures.
- Report equipment issues, quality concerns, or safety hazards to supervisors.
- Work collaboratively with team members to meet production schedules and customer deadlines.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn machining skills.
- Previous manufacturing or machine shop experience is a plus but not required.
- Ability to read a tape measure and perform basic math calculations.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- Dependable with a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Willingness to cross-train and assist in multiple areas of the shop.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequently lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to bend, reach, stoop, and perform repetitive hand movements.
- Ability to work safely around machinery while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
