American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) position at a busy surgical oncology hospital in Ohio, requiring at least 2 years of RN experience and active BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications.

Mixed-acuity PCU/Med-Surg surgical oncology unit

Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with surgical oncology diagnoses including breast, thyroid, melanoma, hepatobiliary (liver, pancreas, spleen, biliary tract, neuroendocrine), colorectal, and reconstructive plastics cases

Nurse-to-patient ratio goal is 1:4, with potential for 1:5

Shift: Nights (3x12-hour shifts, 19:00–07:30)

Day/Night rotating scheduling is possible — shift assignments are determined by department needs and reviewed every 4-week scheduling period

Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs

Special procedures include chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, management of oncologic emergencies, cytokine release syndrome, insulin drips, and heparin drips

Strong emphasis on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention

Charting is performed in Epic

Active OH RN license or compact RN license (must be active and in hand at time of consideration)

Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required

ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred

Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

2 professional references required: at least 1 must be from a Manager, Director, or formal leadership role (e.g., Supervisor); a Charge RN is acceptable as a second reference; co-worker references are not accepted

Orientation begins with 1 week of Mon–Fri day shift training, followed by a second week of 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Self-scheduling requests are submitted by the traveler prior to the unit balancing and finalizing the schedule

Local candidates are accepted at the same rate as travelers

Former employees of this facility are eligible for a travel assignment after a minimum 6-month separation

All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application and will be built into the contract, with a maximum of 7 days

Ohio state fingerprinting is required and must be initiated promptly after accepting the position — candidates outside of Ohio will need to travel to an in-state fingerprinting location or may receive a mailed packet to complete urgently upon receipt
