Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals with diverse needs. This role is vital in promoting independence, safety, and well-being for residents in various care settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community-based programs. Responsibilities
- Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs), including personal hygiene, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using appropriate patient transfer methods such as Hoyer lifts or manual handling techniques.
- Monitor and observe patients for changes in condition, vital signs, or behavior, ensuring timely reporting to healthcare professionals as needed.
- Support medication administration following HIPAA guidelines and care plans developed by healthcare teams.
- Prepare nutritious meals in accordance with dietary restrictions and assist residents with meal consumption when necessary.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing regular cleaning duties and adhering to sanitation standards.
- Provide transportation assistance for appointments, outings, or community activities to promote social engagement and independence.
- Document care activities accurately and communicate effectively with clients, families, and team members to ensure continuity of care.
- Participate in training related to dementia care, Alzheimer's support, hospice care, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), intellectual disabilities, and other specialized areas of caregiving.
Experience
- Prior experience working in group homes, assisted living facilities, nursing homes, or home health settings is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of patient monitoring techniques including vital signs measurement and patient observation strategies.
- Familiarity with care plans development and implementation for individuals with developmental disabilities or neurodevelopmental disorders.
- Hands-on experience with manual handling equipment such as Hoyer lifts or patient transfer devices.
- Training or certification in first aid and CPR is required; additional certifications in medication administration or dementia care are advantageous.
- Experience supporting individuals with autism or memory care needs enhances your ability to deliver tailored support.
- Background working within HIPAA regulations ensures confidentiality and privacy of client information.
