Job Summary
The Senior Tax Accountant is a top-tier tax professional responsible for the preparation and review of the most complex individual and business tax returns within the firm. This role demands exceptional technical expertise, the ability to manage high-volume, multi-year engagements, and a thorough command of all federal and state return types, including those with significant back-tax liabilities, multi-year non-filing situations, a variety of entity types, and ongoing compliance challenges, delivering accurate, compliant, and strategic tax solutions at the highest standard of practice. Senior Tax Accountants are also expected to host conversations with high-dollar clients to discuss complex and escalated tax matters as needed.
Responsibilities will include, but may not be limited to:
Tax Return Preparation & Review
- Prepare and review federal and state tax returns of the highest complexity, including: Individual (Form 1040 with all Schedules), S-Corporation (Form 1120-S), C-Corporation (Form 1120), Partnership / Multi-Member LLC (Form 1065), and Fiduciary / Trust (Form 1041), out-of-state tax returns, and multi-state K-1s
- Manage high-volume return preparation workflows across multiple simultaneous client engagements
- Identify and apply advanced tax strategies, credits, deductions, and elections to minimize tax liabilities
- Conduct thorough quality review of all work product prior to client delivery or filing
Back-Tax & Compliance Engagements
- Manage multi-year back-tax preparation and filing projects for individuals and businesses with delinquent filing histories
- Analyze prior-year returns, amended returns, and IRS transcripts to reconstruct tax positions and resolve discrepancies
- Collaborate with the IRS Resolution team on Audits, Installment Agreements, Offers in Compromise, Penalty Abatement requests, and other resolution strategies as needed
Client Management
- Conduct client interviews and intake meetings (as needed) to gather financial data, understand tax situations, and set engagement expectations
- Communicate complex tax matters clearly and professionally in writing and verbally
- Advise clients on tax planning opportunities, projected liabilities, and year-round compliance considerations
Team Collaboration & Mentorship
- Provide technical guidance and on-the-job mentorship to Tax Accountants and junior staff
- Participate in team training, internal knowledge-sharing sessions, and continuing education activities
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA or equivalent certification preferred.
- Extensive tax experience including estate planning, Wills & Trusts law, and tax accounting practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Xero, Sage or similar platforms; experience with financial software is a plus.
- Strong understanding of GAAP regulations, securities law, non-profit accounting standards, and regulatory reporting procedures.
- Demonstrated analysis skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Experience with auditing processes, general ledger accounting, payroll management, accounts payable/receivable and budgeting.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to write clear financial reports and explain technical concepts effectively.

Desired skills and qualifications:
- Active and in-good-standing licensure is a non-negotiable requirement for this position:
- Enrolled Agent (EA): active licensure issued by the IRS; OR
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA): active license issued by a State Board of Accountancy
- Minimum 5+ years of professional tax preparation experience, with demonstrated expertise in complex returns
- Proficiency in preparing all major return types (1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065, 1041)
- Extensive experience with multi-year delinquent filing and back-tax compliance engagements
- Proficiency with professional tax software (ProSeries, QBO, Lacerte, UltraTax, or equivalent)
- Working knowledge of IRS e-filing systems, transcript tools, and practitioner portals (e.g., IRS e-Services, TDS)
- Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills; ability to manage multiple complex files simultaneously
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Pay: $100,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
