Position Overview
Network Cabling Services (NCS) is seeking an experienced Data Center Technician II to support and execute structured cabling and fiber installations in data center and commercial environments.
This role requires a technician who can work more independently, handle installations with minimal supervision, and support junior team members while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, and performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, route, and support structured cabling systems (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, fiber)
- Perform cable pulling, dressing, labeling, and routing in data center environments
- Install and build out server racks, cabinets, ladder racks, and cable pathways
- Terminate copper cabling (patch panels, jacks) with minimal supervision
- Assist with fiber optic termination and testing (splicing experience preferred)
- Perform basic testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber systems
- Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and installation plans
- Ensure proper labeling, documentation, and quality control of all work
- Maintain clean and organized job sites
- Follow all safety standards and company protocols
- Support Lead Technicians and assist in guiding Technician I team members
Qualifications
- 2–5 years of experience in structured cabling or data center installations
- Experience working in data centers or commercial environments
- Hands-on experience with:
- Copper cabling (Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A)
- Basic fiber installation (termination/testing)
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and schematics
- Familiarity with industry standards (TIA/EIA, BICSI)
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Ability to pass a background check and drug screening
- Authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with fiber splicing and OTDR testing
- Familiarity with Fluke testing and certification tools
- BICSI certification (or working toward certification)
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification
Work Environment
- Data center and commercial job sites
- Fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- May require travel, overtime, and weekend work based on project needs
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Ability to stand, bend, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces
- Comfortable working in active construction environments
