POSITION PURPOSE: The Teller provides exceptional front-line service to members by accurately processing financial transactions, responding to account inquiries, and promoting credit union products and services. This role is highly member facing and is essential to delivering a consistent, positive member experience. Tellers ensure accuracy, maintain cash controls, uphold compliance standards, and support the overall efficiency and professionalism of the branch.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Member Experience & Service Delivery:
· Provide excellent member service across all interactions, in person and by phone.
· Assist members with account inquiries, transaction questions, and general credit union information.
· Respond to member concerns with professionalism and escalate issues appropriately.
· Promote and cross sell credit union products and services to support member needs and organizational goals.
· Maintain a clean, organized, and professional teller line and work area.
Transaction Processing and Cash Handling:
· Accurately process member transactions including deposits, withdrawals, loan payments, money orders, gift cards, and cashier’s checks.
· Balance and control the teller cash drawer and negotiable items daily.
· Examine checks for proper endorsements, negotiability, and signature verification.
· Process night drop, mail transactions, and cash advances.
· Scan member identification and ensure proper documentation for all transactions.
· Maintain the teller policies and procedures manual.
Operational Support:
· Operate the phone switchboard and route calls appropriately.
· Perform daily filing, recordkeeping, and administrative tasks.
· Maintain organization of the supply area and ensure adequate materials are available.
· Create, mail, and log member loan coupons as needed.
· Support branch operations by following established procedures and contributing to a positive team environment.
Lending and Account Services:
· Maintain knowledge of lending rates, policies, and procedures to answer member questions and accept loan applications.
· Gather required documentation, run credit reports, and prepare complete loan files.
· Process loans, disburse funds, and manage correspondence with indirect auto dealers.
· Serve as backup for releasing liens on paid loans in the Branch Manager’s absence.
· Review negative balance reports, determine appropriate actions, and oversee collection efforts on negative accounts.
Compliance and Risk Management:
· Comply with all credit union policies, including the Information Technology Usage Policy.
· Follow all regulatory requirements, including the Bank Secrecy Act and related financial industry regulations.
· Identify and report suspicious activity in accordance with compliance standards.
· Uphold security procedures to protect members, staff, and credit union assets.
Working Environment/Physical Activities:
· Must be able to manage sensitive member information with professionalism and discretion.
· Teller spends majority of the time standing, with occasional walking and standing in modern indoor office.
· Ability to lift up to 30 pounds may be necessary.
· Travel between branch locations as required.
· Irregular schedule and hours may be required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
· Knowledge of credit union products, services, and policies to answer member questions accurately.
· Ability to handle monetary transactions while maintaining accuracy and engaging with members.
· Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
· Ability to prioritize tasks, maintain professionalism, and support a high service environment.
· Understanding of check cashing and check hold policies.
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
Education, Training, and Experience Required:
· High school diploma or GED required.
· Experience handling money in a financial institution or related business preferred.
· Strong member service and relationship building skills required.
