Operates medium equipment such as tandem dump truck, belt loader, large roller > 4 tons, and skid steer loader for hauling equipment and materials such as: asphalt, limestone, dirt, soil, cement pipe construction materials and debris. Flags traffic during road repairs to control flow of traffic and protect workers, general public and equipment. Assists in the operation of a backhoe in cleaning ditches and installing sideline and cross line pipes. Assists in the operation of self-propelled steel wheel and pneumatic rollers, to compact and solidify fill material, used for paving, patching repairs to base and pavement on roads, driveways and bridge approaches. Operates and maintains electric, gas powered and hand tools, (e.g. chain saws (cutting trees) weed eater, drills, jacks wrenches, air compressor, shovel, rakes, tamps, etc.) in various phases of roadway maintenance. Assists in emergencies and inclement weather operations which may include working hours outside of normal work schedule. When crew is in an "on-call" status, employee is available 24 hours a day. Performs manual labor in building catch basins, pouring concrete for curbs and raised median, laying pipes for driveways and other drainage structures, repairing shoulders, clearing right-of-ways, litter and debris, dead animals, A1 treatment and paving operations and repairing bridges. Subject to be on-call during emergencies. Performs preventative maintenance, conducts, documents, pre-operation vehicle/equipment as outlined in equipment manual. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Six (6) months of related work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position.
Physical Requirement: Works outside in heavy traffic and all weather conditions. Subject to dust, excessive noise and traffic hazards for extended periods of time. Requires heavy lifting up to and occasionally exceeding 50 lbs, standing stooping, bending, and physical strain. Works overtime as necessary. Other physical requirements needed to perform job duties are: walking, climbing, balancing, pulling, kneeling and repetitive motions.
