Drama Program Assistant (Part-Time)

The Pioneer School is seeking a creative, dependable, theater-loving Drama Program Assistant to support our Drama 2 Flagship program for middle school students in grades 6–8.
This is a great opportunity for a theater professional, teaching artist, performing arts educator, college theater student or graduate, or experienced theater enthusiast who enjoys working with adolescents and wants a flexible part-time role in a small, creative school environment.
About the Role
The Drama Program Assistant will work closely with our Drama 2 Flagship director helping students develop their performance skills and preparing them for the Florida Thespian Festival. The assistant will also provide administrative and production support throughout the school year and help bring a spring theatrical production to life. MUSICAL THEATER EXPERIENCE PREFERRED.
The regular schedule is approximately 6 hours per week:
- Wednesdays, 1:00–3:00 PM
- Thursdays, 1:00–3:00 PM
- + administrative hours
Additional hours may be available at certain times of the year, particularly leading up to the Thespian Festival and the spring production. There may also be opportunities for regular additional hours monitoring lunch immediately before Drama 2 on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Pay: $27/hour
Responsibilities
- Support the Director in teaching and preparing students for the Florida Thespian Festival
- Assist students with rehearsals, performance preparation, blocking, memorization, character development, vocal development, and other aspects of theater production
- Help organize scripts, rehearsal materials, costumes, props, music, and other production needs
- Assist with festival preparation, paperwork, logistics, and other administrative tasks
- Support the planning and production of the school’s spring play
- Help supervise and encourage students during rehearsals and theater activities
- Provide additional production support during periods of increased activity
- Help create a positive, collaborative, and fun theater environment for middle school students
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who:
- Has teaching experience in theater, performing arts, education, and/or production
- Enjoys working with middle school students
- Is dependable, organized, energetic, and collaborative
- Has strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Is comfortable helping with both creative and administrative tasks
- Can take direction while also being willing to jump in and solve problems
- Has a genuine enthusiasm for theater and working with young performers
- Can reliably commute to St. Augustine, FL
Voice training or strong vocal skills would be especially helpful, as students may need support with vocal performance and preparation for festival and theatrical productions.
Teaching experience is a plus, but professional or significant amateur theater experience is also welcome.
