Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and highly organized Operating Room (OR) Supervisor to lead and coordinate surgical services within a fast-paced healthcare environment. Duties
- Supervise daily OR operations, ensuring smooth scheduling and resource allocation for surgical procedures across various specialties including medical-surgical, pediatrics, geriatrics, and trauma cases.
- Lead and support OR nursing staff, surgical technologists, anesthesia providers, and support personnel to uphold clinical excellence and patient safety standards.
- Ensure strict adherence to hospital policies, state healthcare regulations, HIPAA compliance, and infection control protocols to safeguard patient information and promote sterile techniques.
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical professionals to facilitate efficient case management from pre-op assessments through post-operative care.
- Oversee medical documentation accuracy using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Cerner or Epic; review surgical reports, ICD coding (International Classification of Diseases), CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), and other medical records for compliance.
- Manage supply inventory, equipment maintenance—including ventilators, catheterization tools, sterile processing—and ensure readiness for all scheduled procedures.
- Provide ongoing training and supervision to staff on new procedures, technology updates like ultrasound or sonography integration, and safety protocols including airway management and IV infusion techniques.
Requirements
- Proven supervisory experience in an operating room setting with comprehensive knowledge of surgical procedures across multiple specialties such as cardiac catheterization, neuro or orthopedic surgery.
- Extensive critical care experience including ICU or Level I Trauma Center exposure; familiarity with acute pain management and ventilator management is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or Athenahealth; strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, and diagnostic evaluation processes.
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams while maintaining high standards of patient care, safety compliance (HIPAA), and nursing policy adherence.
- Valid nursing license with current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification; additional certifications in sterile processing or specialized areas such as pediatric or neonatal ventilator management are advantageous.
- Strong managerial communication skills with the ability to coordinate complex schedules and manage care facility teams effectively.
- Knowledge of state healthcare regulations related to long-term care facilities, assisted living environments, or home care settings is preferred.
