School for the Blind
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
This position reports to the Principal, School for the Blind, and is responsible for providing Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) instruction with a primary emphasis on Independent Living Skills to elementary, middle, and high school students who are visually impaired and may have additional disabilities. Instruction may also include other ECC domains such as self-determination, social interaction, and sensory efficiency. The position utilizes Colorado Academic Standards, ECC frameworks, and benchmarks to establish instructional goals and monitor student progress in a safe and supportive learning environment.
JOB FUNCTIONS- Provide direct instruction in Independent Living Skills, including personal care, food preparation, organization, time management, home management, and self-advocacy
- Deliver training to students and staff on Expanded Core Curriculum (ECC) best practices, promoting independence across school, home, and community environments
- Develop lesson plans, adapt instructional materials, and deliver instruction aligned with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Maintain a positive learning environment utilizing appropriate behavior support strategies
- Apply accommodations and instructional strategies for learners with visual impairments, including task analysis, progress monitoring, and functional skill development
- Utilize adaptive tools, materials, and resources to support student independence in daily living activities
- Collaborate with teachers, related service providers, residential staff, and families to reinforce Independent Living Skills across environments
- Organize instructional settings that promote hands-on, functional, and collaborative learning
- Participate in multidisciplinary teams to develop, implement, and monitor IEP goals related to ECC and independence
- Support school initiatives and contribute to co-curricular and life skills programming
- Participate in team, departmental, and school-wide meetings as required
- Provide parent consultation and support related to Independent Living Skills development
- Engage in professional development related to ECC and visual impairment
- Perform other duties as assigned
