We are a growing healthcare organization operating three Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNFs) and affiliated business entities in California. We are seeking an experienced, hands-on HR & Payroll Manager to lead our human resources and payroll functions while ensuring compliance with California and federal employment laws.
Position Summary
The HR & Payroll Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of payroll and human resources for approximately 100 employees. This role manages payroll processing, benefits administration, employee relations, onboarding, policy compliance, and HR operations. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable in California employment law, thrives in a fast-paced healthcare environment, and is committed to supporting both employees and organizational leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee and process accurate, timely payroll for approximately 100 employees.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and California wage and hour laws.
- Manage employee onboarding, orientation, and offboarding.
- Administer employee benefits, open enrollment, and qualifying life events.
- Maintain personnel records and HRIS/payroll systems.
- Manage employee leave programs, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, and other protected leaves.
- Oversee workers’ compensation claims, unemployment claims, and employment verifications.
- Advise managers on employee relations, performance management, corrective action, and policy interpretation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain HR policies and procedures.
- Prepare payroll, HR, and compliance reports for executive leadership.
- Coordinate annual payroll reporting and support internal and external audits.
- Partner with leadership to support recruitment, employee retention, and organizational development.
- Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive HR and payroll experience.
- Experience processing payroll for 100+ employees.
- Strong knowledge of California employment laws and payroll regulations.
- Healthcare or Skilled Nursing Facility experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with PAYLOCITY, ADP payroll systems.
- Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting multiple healthcare facilities or business entities.
- Knowledge of Medicare/Medicaid healthcare workforce requirements is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $75,000–$105,000, based on experience.
