Center Director
Position Summary
The Center Director is responsible for providing strategic leadership and operational oversight for the childcare center, ensuring excellence in staffing, enrollment growth, regulatory compliance, and overall program quality. This position serves as the leader of the center, guiding all team members while maintaining a strong focus on growth, accountability, and organizational success.
The Director is entrusted with implementing and maintaining the systems, procedures, and standards established by ownership while creating a positive culture for children, families, and staff. The primary measures of success in this role are enrollment growth, staff recruitment and retention, operational excellence, and effective communication with ownership.
The Center Director reports directly to the Owner and oversees the Administrative Assistant, Curriculum Coordinator, and all center staff.
Essential Responsibilities
Enrollment Growth and Business Development
Enrollment growth is a primary responsibility of the Center Director. The Director is expected to actively lead efforts to increase enrollment and move the center toward full licensed capacity while maintaining high standards of care and education.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and executing strategies to increase enrollment and maximize occupancy.
- Managing the enrollment process from initial inquiry through enrollment.
- Conducting tours and building strong relationships with prospective families.
- Monitoring enrollment trends, classroom availability, and retention rates.
- Creating and maintaining community partnerships to increase visibility and referrals.
- Ensuring exceptional family experiences that encourage retention and positive word-of-mouth.
- Collaborating with ownership on growth initiatives and enrollment goals.
Staffing, Recruitment, and Retention
Building and maintaining a strong, stable team is a top priority of this position. The Director is responsible for ensuring the center is appropriately staffed and that team members are supported, developed, and held accountable.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training qualified staff members.
- Maintaining staffing levels that support enrollment growth and operational needs.
- Fostering a positive, professional, and team-oriented workplace culture.
- Providing regular coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities.
- Conducting performance evaluations and addressing performance concerns promptly.
- Implementing retention strategies to reduce turnover and strengthen team stability.
- Ensuring all staff meet licensing, training, and professional development requirements.
Leadership and Team Management
The Director serves as the operational leader of the center and is responsible for creating a culture of accountability, collaboration, and excellence.
Responsibilities include:
- Providing direct supervision and support to the Administrative Assistant, Curriculum Coordinator, and all center personnel.
- Establishing clear expectations and maintaining accountability for performance and conduct.
- Leading team meetings, professional development activities, and center initiatives.
- Delegating responsibilities effectively while maintaining oversight of center operations.
- Promoting a positive and solution-oriented work environment.
- Recognizing and developing leadership potential within the team.
Operations and Compliance
The Director is responsible for ensuring the center operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all applicable regulations and company policies.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining compliance with state licensing requirements and company standards.
- Ensuring a safe, clean, organized, and welcoming environment.
- Overseeing incident management, documentation, and follow-up procedures.
- Monitoring classroom quality, staffing ratios, and daily operations.
- Managing parent concerns and ensuring timely, professional communication.
- Ensuring all systems, processes, and operational procedures established by ownership are consistently executed.
Financial and Operational Performance
The Director plays a key role in the overall financial health and sustainability of the center.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitoring staffing efficiency and labor utilization.
- Supporting budget management and operational planning.
- Tracking enrollment and retention metrics to support revenue growth.
- Identifying opportunities to improve operational effectiveness and profitability.
- Making recommendations to ownership regarding center improvements and growth opportunities.
Reporting and Communication Expectations
A critical function of this position is maintaining consistent communication with ownership through accurate reporting and proactive updates.
The Director is responsible for providing a comprehensive weekly report that includes:

- Current enrollment and occupancy percentage

- New inquiries and scheduled tours

Operational Updates
- Licensing or compliance matters
- Significant incidents or concerns

Qualifications
- Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in ECE, or related field and 2 years of relevant experience in a Leadership role
- Demonstrated success in team leadership, staff development, and employee retention.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience managing enrollment, customer service, or business growth initiatives preferred.
- Knowledge of state childcare licensing requirements and best practices.
- Ability to analyze data, generate reports, and make informed decisions.
- Proficiency with childcare management software and operational systems.

Pay: $45,567.00 - $53,300.00 per year
