Primary Functions: The daily activities of the occupational therapist are performed in a school setting. There is a high level of interaction with students; may be required to work with distraught parents/students. The work requires getting up and down off the floor, physically moving and guiding student motor movements and lifting students up and down from chairs and from the floor, and also requires the moving of equipment. Frequent interruptions occur, and visual and mental concentration on details and prevision is required. The occupational therapist is required to travel to different sites and may be exposed to infectious diseases; may be required to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, bend, squat, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, twist, climb and/or be mobile.
Preferred qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree in occupational therapy from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred. 2. Experience as an occupational therapist in a public school setting or combination of experience and training which provides applicant with the knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the work. 3. Valid Washington state driver’s license 4. Current Washington State Occupational therapist license 5. Valid Washington State ESA occupational therapist certificate.
Responsibilities:
1. Conducts evaluations on referred students to determine occupational therapy needs.
2. Develops, plans, implement and revises IEP Goals (when applicable) and treatment plans to meet each student’s needs.
3. Administer occupational therapy techniques and procedures to improve and maintain student function.
4. Maintains up to date cumulative occupational therapy records and other records as required by the District and state and federal law; follows all relevant state and federal regulations for Special Education; maintains confidentiality.
5. Serve as a consultant for occupational therapy matters to other staff members; serves on committees (including IEP teams) and participates in meetings.
6. Requisitions, repairs, and replaces occupational therapy supplies and equipment.
7. Other duties as assigned.
Specialized Performance Responsibilities: 1. Maintains professional competence through continuing education activities; maintains occupational therapy license and ESA certification; keeps apprised of current legislation pertaining to occupational therapy practice; participates in professional development activities. 2. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of people in a multi-cultural, diverse socioeconomic setting. 3. Ability to transport students to and from their classrooms. 4. Ability to prepare accurate and detailed records. 5. Ability to communicate effectively with students with special needs.
Pay: $77,480.00 - $137,875.00 per year
