Position Summary:
Choir Director wanted to lead choir for medium-sized church which features both traditional and contemporary music. We are seeking an energetic and inspiring Choir Director to lead and cultivate a vibrant choral program. Desired qualities include a strong ability to lead and direct the choir and direct weekly rehearsals along with weekly choir performances at Sunday worship. In this role you will work to direct and inspire singers of various ages and skill levels, fostering a love for worship and music while guiding them to perform songs that inspire the congregation and honor God. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about sacred music, inspiring worship, possesses music leadership qualities, has good communication skills, offers caring mentorship, and has sincere faith.
General Leadership Responsibilities:
- Lead and direct choir performances that inspire worship and praise in church setting.
- Work with pastoral leadership to plan choral music that fits with the worship services and seasonal celebrations.
- Lead rehearsals with enthusiasm, working to inspire and motivate choir members towards performances that inspire people to honor God.
- Work in collaboration with all staff.
- Foster positive, inclusive atmosphere that encourages team spirit, and respect.
- Mentor choir members by providing constructive feedback.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engaging rehearsal plans that enhance vocal techniques and musical understanding.
- Conduct musical performances with poise, presenting sacred choral music that is polished, inspiring, and above all else, offers praise to God.
- Collaboration with other artists/musicians
- Direct an annual Christmas Cantata and a Palm Sunday Cantata.
- Promote the choir's activities through effective communication to increase participation.
- Administration Tasks
Experience:
- 3-5 years prior experience in directing choir or vocal groups at various levels, particularly in a church, preferred.
- Bachelor's degree in music education, choral conducting or a similar field, preferred.
- Having a passion for music and choral performances, required.
- Understands and will comply with copyright laws, required.
- Excellent communication skills to clearly convey musical programs and motivate diverse singers, required.
- Ability to organize rehearsals efficiently while maintaining a lively and motivating environment, required.
- Must possess a positive attitude, demonstrate energy and enthusiasm, and be self-motivated to perform the job effectively, required.
- A broad understanding of choral repertoire across different genres, styles and historical periods, preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in managing rehearsals and performances, preferred.
- Strong mentoring abilities to support individual growth within the choral setting, preferred.
Desired but not required:
- Strong vocal ability to sing in Worship service.
Salary is negotiable based upon education, experience, and final agreement on scope of duties and responsibilities.
