JOB SUMMARY: The Substitute Dance Instructor is responsible for instructing students, taking attendance, controlling the music source, demonstrating dance combinations, and following the substitute lesson plans and curriculum provided. The position is part of the agency’s substitute instructor pool, with hours assigned on an as-needed basis. This position has hours available Monday through Friday mornings and early afternoons for classes with students ages 15 months to 5 years. Part-time 3 position - benefits listed below.
SUPERVISORY DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a positive role model and maintain a safe, supportive environment for students
Instruct students with enthusiasm, creativity, and sensitivity to different learning styles and abilities
Adapt lessons and demonstrate techniques using the substitute plans provided
Take attendance, monitor absences, and keep the Recreation Supervisor informed
Communicate classroom or facility needs to the Recreation Supervisor and follow their direction on class management and sub coverage
Supervise children closely and provide feedback or direct parent/guardian questions to the Recreation Supervisor as needed
Represent the Park District with professionalism and courtesy to students, families, and visitors
Follow Park District rules, policies, and guidelines for facility safety and cleanliness, including sanitizing and resetting the dance studio
Build and maintain positive working relationships with staff, parents/guardians, and community members
Follow Wilmette Park District safety protocols and attend required training; assist with minor first aid when necessary
Ability to take initiative, adapt quickly, and remain calm in dynamic situations
Actively contribute to the Park District's sustainability goals
Perform other related duties as assigned, based on agency needs
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Actively support the safety program that will effectively control and reduce accidents
Obey the practical safety rules, regulations, and procedures established by the Wilmette Park District safety program that are pertinent to the activities conducted by the department
Become familiar with and follow the safety procedures of the Wilmette Park District, including, but not limited to, fire, severe weather, and evacuation procedures
Promptly report all unsafe actions, practices, or conditions observed to the immediate supervisor, Human Resources/Risk Management division
Attend and participate in required safety training
