Location: La Cañada Flintridge, CA
Compensation: $75,000–$95,000, commensurate with experience
About the Role
We're a rapidly expanding property management firm currently overseeing 3,000+ units, and we're hiring a Senior Property Accountant to own the day-to-day property-level accounting that keeps our business running cleanly and compliantly. The core of this role is trust accounting, monthly reconciliations, property-level AP, and owner reporting across the portfolio.
You'll report to the Company’s Controller, who leads the broader finance function, and partner closely with our 10+ property managers to keep property-level financials accurate, current, and audit-ready. This is an individual contributor role with real ownership: you’ll run the property accounting workflows end-to-end, not just execute pieces of them. As our portfolio grows, the scope of this seat grows with it.
We're looking for someone exceptionally detail-oriented and deeply fluent in AppFolio, with a track record of accuracy in high-volume, deadline-driven work. You catch small discrepancies before they become big ones, and you keep owner statements and PM requests moving proactively.
What You'll Do
- Perform monthly trust account reconciliations with precision and timeliness
- Manage property-level accounts payable (distinct from corporate AP)
- Execute tax withholding for out-of-state property owners in compliance with California requirements
- Prepare and issue monthly owner statements and distributions
- Maintain trust accounting compliance, including the controls and measures that keep the portfolio audit-ready
- Support our 10+ property managers on property-level accounting questions and resolve discrepancies as they arise
- Partner with the Controller on month-end close for the property side of the business
What You Bring
- 4+ years of property management accounting experience; you understand trust accounting, owner statements, and the rhythms of property-level finance
- Hands-on AppFolio experience is required; QuickBooks proficiency strongly preferred
- Working knowledge of California trust accounting and tax compliance requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail and a track record of accuracy in high-volume, deadline-driven work
- Clear, professional communication with property managers, owners, and internal partners
Why Join Us
We're a growing property management firm with a stable finance leadership team, modern systems, and a portfolio that continues to expand. This is a role for someone who wants real ownership of the property accounting function in a well-run shop, with resources to do the job right and a Controller who values getting the details correct.
