Essential functions and responsibilities:
- Data entry, clerical, report functions.
- Scan pathology requisitions, and send out material
- Receives tissue specimens and accession the specimens.
- Set up specimens and make cassettes for the specimens.
- Cover slips, labels, and distributes slides to pathologist.
- Log in all incoming consultation slides and prepares slides for Pathologist.
- Log in all Pathology reports, accession and pull charts for Pathology review.
- File slides and blocks.
- Maintain order in laboratory and compliance to safety regulations.
- Follows safety guidelines and reports to Supervisor, Histology Tech or Manager.
- Distribution of pathology reports
- Enters specimen block and slide label counts in order to print necessary slide labels.
- Files histology requisitions and slides.
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all phases of laboratory work and findings.
Knowledge and Skill:
- Must have manual dexterity and motor coordination.
- Must be precise when performing technical tasks.
- Effective interpersonal skills, both in person and on the telephone.
- Knowledge of routine and specialized techniques in Histopathology.
- Must be able to communicate, and read/write English.
- High accuracy in work, attention to detail.
Physical demands:
- Exposure to chemicals and fumes.
- Frequent alpha/ numeric keyboarding.
- Oral communication over the phone and in person.
- Ability to view computer monitor.
- Requires mental agility and physical dexterity along with the ability to follow through with often times mundane tasks.
- Must be able to exercise patience and accuracy in the face of multiple interruptions.
- Observes strict safety precautions when handling biological specimens and chemicals.
