We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Beginning Associate Attorney to join our dynamic legal team at a boutique civil rights firm. We focus on litigating constitutional claims against Child Protective Service Agencies. This entry-level role offers an exciting opportunity to develop foundational legal skills. As a Beginning Associate Attorney, you will support senior attorneys in managing cases, conducting legal research, drafting documents, propounding, responding to and compelling discovery, as well as preparing for court proceedings. This paid position is ideal for recent law school graduates who have passed the California bar exam and are eager to gain comprehensive litigation and client advocacy experience in a collaborative environment committed to professional growth.
Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough legal research using platforms such as LexisNexis and/or Westlaw to support case development across various practice areas.
- Assist in drafting legal documents including contracts, motions, pleadings, and client correspondence with precision and clarity.
- Support trial preparation activities such as organizing evidence, preparing witness lists, and coordinating depositions.
- Participate in depositions and observe courtroom proceedings to gain practical litigation experience.
- Collaborate with senior attorneys on case strategy meetings, negotiations, and client communications to ensure effective legal advocacy.
- Manage case files efficiently using legal case management systems while maintaining meticulous records of case developments.
- Stay updated on procedural law knowledge and statutory legal research to ensure compliance with court requirements and legal standards.
Requirements
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree; recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Strong research skills with proficiency in LexisNexis and Westlaw platforms.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to draft clear legal documents.
- Demonstrated knowledge of procedural law, trial procedures, and litigation processes.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Prior law office experience is preferred but not required; enthusiasm for learning is essential.

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,786.05 per year
