THIS IS A POSTING FOR TEACHERS AND TEACHER ASSISTANTS
As a preschool Teacher at the Schilit Early Childhood Center of B’nai Israel Congregation, you are responsible for developing a thoughtful and creative program suitable for young children, employing a variety of educational techniques some of which include open-ended educational play, storytelling, singing, and art. Our teachers learn along with the children and are involved in the play, observing and responding to each child to help them improve social competencies and build self-esteem and to have awareness of each child’s capabilities. As a preschool teacher, you must have genuine love for children and patience to support their growth.
It is expected that you will have knowledge of current best practices and early childhood educational methods, including best practices and the Reggio philosophy. Our teachers engage children and earn their trust and attention. The goal of the Schilit Early Childhood Center staff and teachers is to contribute to the healthy mental, emotional, and social development of the child so that they can more easily acclimate to the next stage of their educational journey.
We are currently looking for full-time employees for the 2026-2027 school year and are especially interested in teachers who are certified to work with infants and toddlers and have experience supporting children in these developmental stages.
Certification is preferable.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare, coordinate, and support weekly and daily classroom lesson plans.
- Maintain progress reports and regularly communicate with parents to share developmental information.
- Take an active part in the planning, arranging, and presenting programs for festival celebrations and other functions of the Early Childhood Center.
- Participate in the planning of Early Childhood Center activities, including implementing the curriculum, preparing instructional materials, and completing other related tasks as requested by the Early Childhood Center Director.
- Attend staff orientation, training sessions, staff meetings, Back-to-School Night, and professional development days.
- Attend to the personal hygiene of students, as needed.
- Prepare, attend, and participate in parent-teacher conferences for each student, and provide alternative conferences when personal meetings cannot be scheduled.
- Meet with parents.
- Meet with Early Childhood Center Director and other administrative staff for support regarding a child or classroom activities.
- Provide a safe and stimulating environment that facilitates learning.
- Document significant phone calls, accidents, parent meetings, and observations, alerting the Early Childhood Center Director and administrative staff to significant issues.
- Organize and supervise play and learning activities (e.g., reading, cooking, music, dancing).
- Document children’s classroom experiences, capturing their activities, interests, and thinking to support learning, reflection, and communication with families.
- Ensure all lessons, programs, and activities meet ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) requirements and uphold the dignity and respect of all students.
WHAT MATTERS TO US
EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education
- 3–5 years of experience working in an early childhood environment (preschool or nursery school)
- Prior experience as a teacher, counselor, or other role supporting Jewish learning strongly desired
- Knowledge of best practices in early childhood education
- Ability to lift and supervise children safely
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification or experience working with infants and toddlers
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a collaborative, team-oriented style
- Genuine love and respect for children
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Deep appreciation and knowledge of Jewish values, culture, and traditions a plus
- Commitment to continued education in Early Childhood Development
