ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Payroll Accountant is responsible for supporting payroll operations through union compliance auditing, payroll account reconciliations, reporting analytics, and system administration. This role serves as a key liaison between Payroll and Accounting to ensure accurate reporting, timely remittance processing, proper accrual balancing, and compliance with union agreements and wage requirements.
- Audit union payroll reports to ensure accurate reporting, proper wage and fringe calculations, and compliance with collective bargaining agreements.
- Review and resolve payroll discrepancies to help mitigate union damages, penalties, and late fees.
- Reconcile payroll-related accounts, liabilities, and accruals to support accurate financial reporting.
- Manage and maintain union scale wage and fringe rates within TradeSeal, including updates related to contract and rate changes.
- Build, maintain, and analyze payroll and labor reports within Paylocity to improve reporting visibility and operational efficiency.
- Support month-end payroll accounting activities and assist with payroll audits and reporting requests.
- Collaborate with Payroll and Accounting teams to improve processes, strengthen compliance controls, and increase overall team efficiency.
QUALIFICATION AND SKILLS
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Payroll Administration, or related field preferred.
- 2+ years of payroll accounting, union payroll, or payroll compliance experience preferred.
- Experience working with union payroll environments and collective bargaining agreements are strongly preferred.
- Experience with Paylocity and/or TradeSeal preferred.
- Strong understanding of payroll reconciliations, accrual accounting, and payroll reporting.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills preferred, including formulas, lookups, pivots, and data analysis.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify discrepancies and resolve issues proactively.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain confidentiality with sensitive payroll information.
