Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with manual transmission across long-distance routes, adhering to all traffic laws and safety regulations.
- Transport a variety of freight including refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, and other specialized equipment.
- Load and unload cargo efficiently using appropriate equipment such as forklifts or roll-off trucks when necessary.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety, including checking brakes, lights, tires, and load securement.
- Manage route driving schedules to meet delivery deadlines while optimizing fuel efficiency and minimizing delays.
- Communicate effectively with dispatchers regarding route updates, delivery status, and any issues encountered on the road.
- Maintain accurate logs of driving hours, cargo details, and inspection reports in compliance with DOT regulations.
Skills
- Proven experience in truck driving with a valid CDL A license; familiarity with manual transmission preferred.
- Experience operating refrigerated trailers, flatbeds, tankers, dump trucks, or roll-off trucks is highly desirable.
- Strong knowledge of freight handling procedures including load & unload operations and securing cargo safely.
- Ability to perform detailed vehicle inspections and troubleshoot common mechanical issues.
- Excellent route planning skills with a focus on efficiency and safety during long-haul trips.
- Familiarity with forklift operation for loading/unloading when required.
