Home IT / Wi-Fi Technician
NMSurf, Inc. is looking for a motivated and customer-focused Home IT / Wi-Fi Technician to join our team.
Pay: $20.00–$26.00 per hour, depending on experience
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys technology, troubleshooting, working with customers, and solving real-world home networking problems. Our HomeIT technicians help customers improve the Wi-Fi and connectivity throughout their homes and make sure their connected devices are working properly.
Responsibilities
As a Home IT / Wi-Fi Technician, you will:
- Troubleshoot slow or unreliable home Wi-Fi connections
- Identify Wi-Fi dead zones and coverage problems
- Install and configure routers and whole-home mesh Wi-Fi systems
- Configure Wi-Fi network names, passwords, and router settings
- Connect and troubleshoot TVs, streaming devices, smartphones, tablets, computers, printers, cameras, and other connected devices
- Troubleshoot Ethernet and wireless network connectivity
- Perform router firmware updates and basic network maintenance
- Help customers understand how to use and manage their home Wi-Fi
- Educate customers on proper placement of routers and mesh access points
- Diagnose whether connectivity problems are related to the customer's Wi-Fi, equipment, devices, or Internet connection
- Provide professional and courteous service while working inside customers' homes
- Document work performed and any equipment installed
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Has a good understanding of computers, Wi-Fi, routers, and home networking
- Is comfortable troubleshooting technology and solving problems
- Understands basic networking concepts such as IP addresses, DHCP, Ethernet, and wireless networks
- Is comfortable working with smartphones, smart TVs, streaming devices, cameras, printers, and other connected devices
- Has strong communication and customer-service skills
- Can explain technical issues to customers in simple, easy-to-understand terms
- Is dependable, professional, and able to work independently
- Has a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Is comfortable traveling to customer homes throughout the service area
Previous experience as an IT technician, help-desk technician, cable/internet technician, network technician, low-voltage technician, or similar position is preferred but not necessarily required.
Experience with TP-Link, Aginet, Deco, Eero, Google Wi-Fi, Orbi, UniFi, MikroTik, or similar networking equipment is a plus.
What We're Looking For
Technical knowledge is important, but attitude and problem-solving ability are just as important.
The right person should enjoy figuring out why something isn't working and be willing to work through the problem rather than simply replacing equipment or telling the customer it can't be fixed.
Because this position involves working directly inside customers' homes, professionalism, communication, appearance, and respect for the customer's property are extremely important.
Compensation
Starting pay is $20.00 per hour, with experienced technicians earning up to $26.00 per hour based on experience and qualifications.
Additional opportunities for advancement may be available as the HomeIT program grows.
