HIGH-END RESIDENTIAL LANDSCAPE DESIGN / BUILD
Project Manager
Birmingham, Alabama Area · Full-Time · Field-Based
POSITION SUMMARY
We are a high-end residential landscape design/build firm serving a discerning clientele across the Birmingham area. We build complete outdoor environments, including pools, terraces, outdoor kitchens, masonry, lighting, and planting, to a standard our clients expect and never question.
This is a direct-hire, field-present Project Manager role. The right person owns their projects end to end: they lead crews and subcontractors in the field, communicate flawlessly with clients, and carry the administrative discipline that keeps a job on schedule and profitable.
Above all, this is a role for a self-starter. We are looking for someone who sees what needs to be done and does it, who takes an established plan and executes it without being managed through every step.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Annual Salary: $60,000
Company Vehicle: Assigned truck
Company Credit Card: For job-related expenses
Insurance: Health coverage provided
Paid Time Off: Vacation time provided
Review: Performance and compensation review at 6 months, with a defined path to growth tied to ownership and results
WHAT YOU'LL OWN
This person owns their side of the business. Their responsibilities run from the field to the file cabinet:
- Project Execution. Take an established design and gameplan and execute it in the field, on schedule, on budget, and to our standard. Own each assigned project from mobilization through final walkthrough.
- Revenue & Efficiency. Drive the revenue on every project and treat time as the resource it is. Keep crews productive, sequence the work tightly, and push each job toward completion. Not a wasted hour or a wasted day: every day on site moves the project, and the revenue, forward.
- Crew Leadership. Direct, train, and instruct field crews daily. Set the pace, hold the standard, and lead from the front as a true leader on the job site, not a spectator.
- Subcontractor Coordination. Schedule and manage subs across trades, including masonry, irrigation, lighting, and concrete. Communicate scope clearly, hold them to their windows, and resolve field issues before they escalate.
- Client Communication. Serve as the on-site face of the company. Listen carefully to the client, manage expectations calmly, and keep them informed proactively. Every interaction reflects, and must exceed, the brand.
- Administrative Discipline. Handle the paperwork the field generates: daily documentation, scheduling, change tracking, photos, and reporting through our operational tools. Kept accurate and current, without reminders.
- Ownership. Treat every project as your own business. Anticipate problems, take initiative, and follow through on every commitment you make.
NON-NEGOTIABLES
These are absolute requirements. A candidate missing any of these will not be considered, regardless of other qualifications.
- Initiative & Ownership. You see what needs to be done and you do it. You don't wait to be told, and you don't leave a simple task half-finished. You move work forward and take pride in doing so.
- Character. Honest, dependable, and accountable. Our founder has built this reputation over many years; this hire protects it on every job site and in every client interaction.
- Communication. Clear and proactive in every direction: up to leadership, across to subs and crew, and directly with clients. Silence is not acceptable in this role.
- Work Ethic. Willing to put in the work the season demands. This is not a 9-to-5 role during peak installation.
- Attendance. Present, on time, and reliable. The crew and the schedule depend on it.
- Valid Driver's License. Required. Must be comfortable operating company vehicles. An MVR check will be conducted.
LANDSCAPE BACKGROUND & FIELD SKILLS
We are looking for someone who already brings a landscaping background; this is not a role we intend to teach from the ground up. Candidates should be comfortable on a job site, able to read and execute a plan, and able to think quickly on their feet when conditions change. We expect a working command of the following:
- A genuine landscaping / landscape construction background
- Accurate field measurement and layout, fully comfortable with a tape measure
- Plant material and plant spacing standards
- Irrigation systems
- Landscape lighting concepts
- Drainage
- Heavy equipment operation
WHO YOU ARE
- A leader people follow, earning respect through consistency and example, not authority alone. Able to manage, train, and instruct a team in the field.
- Relentlessly organized: you track commitments, keep notes, and follow through without reminders.
- A polished professional: you present and carry yourself in a way that reassures a high-end client the moment you step on site.
- Quick on your feet: field conditions change, weather happens, subs miss windows; you adjust and keep momentum without losing composure.
- Autonomous, but disciplined: you operate independently within our established processes rather than working around them.
- Ambitious: you want to lead, grow, and take full ownership of results, and you consistently exceed what is asked.
REPORTING & STRUCTURE
This role reports to the Director of Operations. The incoming Project Manager will train under existing field leadership before taking full ownership of their own projects.
Our Hiring Philosophy
Character, work ethic, dependability, and communication are non-negotiable; we will not compromise on them. Beyond that, we are looking for a candidate who already brings a landscaping background and sound field instincts. We can develop a capable operator into a great one, but we cannot teach integrity, reliability, initiative, or the ability to communicate under pressure
