Controller
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Controller to oversee the day-to-day accounting operations of The Second Wind. The Controller will be responsible for managing the accounting function, financial reporting, month-end close, payroll oversight, and internal controls, ensuring accurate and timely financial information across the organization.
The ideal candidate has strong healthcare accounting experience, preferably within a medical group, outpatient healthcare organization, or behavioral health setting, and is comfortable managing hands-on accounting work while also supporting broader financial strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing
Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial statements
Prepare financial statements and reports for review by leadership
Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts on a regular basis
Monitor cash flow and support cash management activities
Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
Support budgeting and forecasting processes in partnership with leadership
Assist with revenue cycle reporting, including AR aging, collections tracking, and payer reimbursement reconciliation
Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and tax preparers as needed
Supervise accounting or bookkeeping staff, if applicable
Ensure compliance with healthcare financial regulations and reporting requirements
Support system and process improvements for accounting workflows and reporting
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
CPA a plus, not required
Minimum of 4-7 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a Controller or senior accounting role
Prior experience in healthcare, medical group operations, behavioral health, or outpatient healthcare settings strongly preferred
Strong understanding of month-end close processes, general ledger accounting, and financial reporting
Familiarity with healthcare billing, revenue cycle basics, and payer reimbursement a plus
Experience with accounting software and financial reporting systems
Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities
Comfortable working in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
