About Samfely
Samfely is a women-run nonprofit specializing in afterschool enrichment in Brooklyn since 2017. Providing low-cost to free afterschool programming, we blend homework help, STEM, and social-emotional learning to build confident, curious young thinkers.
The Role
The Fiscal Officer is responsible for assisting with the financial management of Samfely's programs , vendors, and contracts across 2 sites. The position carries responsibility for day-to-day accounting operations as well as contract compliance, audit preparation, and financial reporting to the Executive Director and the Board of Directors.
The Fiscal Officer reports to the Executive Director and works in coordination with the Assistant Director and the Program Directors at each site.
What You'll Do
Compliance
- Manage fiscal reporting, including budget registration, modifications, and monthly invoicing
- Track spending against approved budget categories and flag variances before they become findings
- Ensure subcontractor and vendor agreements are properly disclosed and approved on the contract
Accounting and reporting
- Own the monthly close, general ledger, bank reconciliations, and financial statements
- Produce monthly budget-to-actual reports by site and by funding source
- Maintain cost allocation across sites, programs, and funding streams
- Manage accounts payable, vendor payments, and expense documentation
Payroll and benefits
- Oversee semi-monthly payroll for approximately 40 part-time, hourly, seasonal staff
- Ensure accurate timekeeping, overtime, and NY wage-and-hour compliance
- Manage payroll tax filings, workers' compensation, disability, and Paid Family Leave
Audit and governance
- Lead preparation for CPA audit
- Maintain internal controls, including segregation of duties and a documented approval chain
- Present financials to the Board of Directors quarterly and support Board-level compensation review
Planning
- Build annual operating budgets and multi-year projections
- Model staffing scenarios and their cost implications
What You Bring
- Experience with nonprofit accounting or finance, including a lead fiscal role
- Experience with government contract reporting (state, federal, DOE)
- Experience preparing for an independent audit
- Strong grasp of nonprofit GAAP, functional expense allocation, and restricted fund accounting
- Payroll oversight for a part-time or seasonal workforce
- Proficiency in PayChex (or comparable) and advanced Excel
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
- CPA or DYCD COMPASS experience a plus

Pay: $45.00 - $50.00 per hour
