Position Summary:
The Nurse Practitioner (APRN) is responsible for providing medical evaluation and support services for patients within an 82-bed inpatient behavioral health hospital serving adult and geri-lifestyle populations ages 21 and older. The NP works collaboratively with the multidisciplinary treatment team to ensure patients are medically appropriate for psychiatric treatment and to support continuity of care throughout hospitalization.
This position is responsible for completing Health & Physical (H&P) assessments, addressing medical needs of psychiatric patients, and assisting with on-call duties related to medical clearance for admissions to the facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Complete comprehensive Health & Physical (H&P) assessments within required timeframes for newly admitted patients
- Evaluate and address medical conditions and concerns of behavioral health patients
- Collaborate with psychiatrists, nursing staff, social services, therapy staff, and other members of the multidisciplinary treatment team
- Participate in treatment team meetings and provide medical input regarding patient care and treatment planning
- Review laboratory results, diagnostics, medications, and medical histories to support safe patient care
- Assist with medical clearance determinations for admissions to the facility
- Provide on-call coverage as assigned for admission clearances and medical consultation needs
- Communicate effectively with outside providers, referral sources, hospitals, and emergency departments when needed
- Ensure timely, accurate, and compliant medical documentation within the electronic medical record
- Maintain compliance with Joint Commission standards, federal/state regulations, and facility policies and procedures
- Support a positive, professional, and collaborative treatment environment
Qualifications:
- Current, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license in the applicable state
- Board Certified Nurse Practitioner required
- DEA license and prescriptive authority required
- Experience in behavioral health, inpatient psychiatric, geriatric, internal medicine, family practice, or hospital medicine preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and documentation skills
- Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced multidisciplinary environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Schedule/Call:
- Some on-call responsibilities required for admission medical clearance and patient medical needs
