Duties
- Process medical claims using billing software and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems to ensure timely submission and reimbursement
- Verify patient insurance coverage, including health insurance knowledge, to accurately bill for services rendered
- Assign appropriate diagnosis codes (ICD-9, ICD-10) and procedure codes (CPT coding) in compliance with healthcare claims management standards
- Review medical records and documentation to support billing accuracy and resolve discrepancies promptly
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through medical collection efforts and communicate effectively with insurance providers
- Maintain detailed records of billing transactions, medical coding activities, and patient account updates
- Provide excellent customer service by addressing patient inquiries regarding bills, insurance claims, and payment options
Qualifications
- Proven experience in medical office billing with familiarity in medical terminology and coding practices including DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and billing software used within healthcare settings
- Strong understanding of healthcare claims management processes and EMR/EHR systems integration
- Knowledge of ICD-9, ICD-10 coding systems, CPT coding standards, and medical coding best practices
- Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail for handling medical records and billing documentation
- Ability to communicate clearly with patients, insurance companies, and healthcare providers to resolve billing issues efficiently
- Prior experience in a healthcare setting with a focus on medical collection efforts is highly desirable
