FAA Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME)
Position Summary
The FAA Designated Mechanic Examiner (DME) is responsible for evaluating and certifying applicants seeking Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Mechanic Certificates with Airframe and/or Powerplant ratings. Acting under the authority delegated by the FAA, the DME conducts oral and practical examinations to determine whether applicants possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to safely perform maintenance, preventive maintenance, and alterations on aircraft and aircraft systems.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Conduct FAA-authorized Oral and Practical (O&P) examinations for applicants seeking:

- General Mechanic Certification

Airframe (A) Certification

Powerplant (P) Certification
-
Airframe and Powerplant (A&P) Certification

Evaluate applicant competency in accordance with FAA regulations, standards, policies, and the applicable Airman Certification Standards (ACS).

Assess applicant knowledge of aviation maintenance practices, safety procedures, regulatory compliance, aircraft systems, troubleshooting techniques, inspections, repairs, and maintenance documentation.

Administer practical tests involving aircraft structures, systems, engines, components, tools, and maintenance procedures.

Ensure examinations are conducted fairly, consistently, and in accordance with FAA guidance and examiner responsibilities.

Complete and maintain accurate examination records, reports, and certification documentation.

Verify applicant eligibility and required documentation before testing.

Submit examination results and required reports to the FAA within established timelines.

Maintain examiner qualifications, training, and currency requirements established by the FAA.

Promote aviation safety through objective evaluation and adherence to professional and ethical standards.

Provide applicants with examination results, feedback, and guidance regarding certification requirements when appropriate.
