Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Registered Nurse to serve as an Operating Room Circulator for our Orthopedic focused Ambulatory Surgery Center in the greater Hartford, CT area.
*Full time, permanent (4x10s or 5x8s)
*No call, No nights, No weekends, No holidays
*Lunch provided daily
Duties
- Prepare the operating room by ensuring all necessary supplies, equipment, and sterile techniques are in place before procedures
- Act as the primary circulator during surgeries, managing patient safety, monitoring vital signs, and facilitating communication among the surgical team
- Assist with patient assessments pre- and post-operation, including vital signs, medical history review, and physical examinations
- Maintain strict aseptic technique standards throughout all procedures to prevent infection and ensure compliance with infection control protocols
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately using EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner, including medication administration, intraoperative events, and postoperative instructions
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care plans for diverse surgical cases such as ophthalmology, trauma medicine, or cardiac catheterization procedures
- Provide patient education on perioperative processes and postoperative care instructions to ensure understanding and comfort
- Assist with specimen collection/processing and support laboratory testing as needed for diagnostic evaluation
- Monitor for acute pain management needs during surgery and recovery phases while ensuring patient comfort and safety
- Support emergency response efforts within the OR setting by demonstrating proficiency in airway management, IV infusion techniques, suturing skills, and basic life support (BLS)
Experience
- Active and unencumbered CT RN license; additional certifications such as BLS or ACLS preferred
- At least 2 years of experience working in an operating room environment as a circulating nurse or similar role; OR experience is essential
- At least one year of experience in orthopedics
- Experience within an ambulatory setting is highly preferred
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems like Epic or Cerner for documentation purposes
